Puerto Rico

The archipelago to which we travel on our cruise consists of many islands, the largest of which is Puerto Rico. Its green and windy coastline is protected by the mountains, while culturally it is a kaleidoscope of traditions and customs.
In San Juan, the capital, two opposing souls: the old colonial city with its traditions blends with a more worldly seaside life. With over one million inhabitants, San Juan, docking port on our cruise, is an anomaly compared to the small towns of the Caribbean. Luquillo Beach is perhaps the most famous beach. About fifty kilometres from the capital, it sweeps around a crescent-shaped bay, bordered by palm trees and overlooking a lagoon with beautiful coral reefs. There is a mix of four cultures in the archipelago and during our trip to Puerto Rico we’ll meet people of Taino, Spanish, American and African descent. The typical dances like bomba and plena were inherited from the latter.
