The programme

We leave the port of Mindelo by coach and we drive down the avenue that runs along the harbour which is characterized by architecture of the colonial period and then we go through the historic centre of the city and its fascinating main square.
As we leave the city, we immediately head for the highest mountain on the island, Monte Verde (Green Mountain) (774 m.), from where we can see lush plantations, an incredible breathtaking view of the whole island and, if we are lucky with the weather, even the islands nearby.
Proceeding by coach along the coast, we arrive at a beach called Praia Grande (which in Portuguese means Large Beach ), about 15 km west of Mindelo. We see before us an unspoiled landscape, set in a typical natural and wild context, and characterized by the contrast between the white sand and the adjacent volcanic rocks.
While we relax in the sun in this paradise of white sand and crystal clear waters, our guide treats us to a Grog, the national alcoholic drink, and some aromatic fruit punch.
Before returning to the ship, we pass through the Ribeira de Calhau agricultural valley, which gets its name from the river by the same name, and our guide elaborates on the island's agricultural activity which is fundamental for the survival of Cape Verdeans and their eating habits.
