The programme

With the help of a map, we prepare for a new adventure to explore this volcanic island as we please by establishing an itinerary of our own.
There are destinations not to be missed, like the small village of Mato Inglês, in the centre of the island of São Vicente, approximately 5 km east of the main city of Mindelo, and Monte Verde (the Green Mountain), which, with an altitude of 774 metres, is the highest mountain on the island and from where we can enjoy a view of the Ribeira de Calhau agricultural valley, which takes its name from the river by the same name. It is impossible not to plan a visit to the splendid and famous Baia das Gatas (the bay of catfish), where we can see very high waves and a sort of natural pool sheltered by rocks, and Praia Grande, (the large Beach), an unspoiled beach set in a typical natural and wild context, characterized by the contrast between the white sand and the adjacent volcanic rocks.
After such an engaging tour all we need is a cool drink and a typical local dish! There are plenty of fish dishes to choose from, but we must not forget to taste the cheese, mostly goat cheese. For a light refreshment we can try the tasty bananas and papaya. And if what you want is a quick snack, there are plenty of Kiosks and bars all over the island for tasty sandwiches.
If we decide to take a taxi, the taxi driver will certainly be happy to recommend places where to stop and to tell us how long it takes to go to the various places we may want to visit.
