In a nutshell

We will explore Rio de Janeiro on a tour that will take us to some of the most iconic sites in the city and the whole of Brazil: from the statue of Christ the Redeemer to the Maracanã stadium, and a host of breath-taking views.

The programme

We will leave the port by coach and cross the city centre until we reach the Cosme Velho district, which lies at the foot of Mount Corcovado. Amidst Neo-Colonial homes and secret gardens, the beauty of this area south of Rio lies in the rustic views and age-old charm of the colourful houses.
When we reach the station, we will board the little train that will take us up to the top of Mount Corcovado, one of two peaks in Rio de Janeiro, famous in Brazil and across the world for its statue of Christ the Redeemer. With its Art Deco style, the statue is 38 metres tall (8 metres of which are just the base), it weighs 1,145 tonnes, stands 700 metres above sea level, towering over the city and the bay, and in 2007 it was included as one of the new seven wonders of the world. It is the iconic symbol of Rio and Brazil and represents Christ the Redeemer embracing humanity.
At the foot of the statue we will be greeted by breath-taking 360° views of the entire city, its beaches, Guanabara bay, the centre, Sugarloaf Mountain, lakes and the various districts.
Then we will travel back down Mount Corcovado and get back on the coach, which will take us to a churrasquería (Brazilian steakhouse) where we will be served lunch.
After lunch, our tour will continue to the Ipanema and Copacabana districts, famous worldwide for their stunning beaches that are always packed. After that, we will reach the final stop on our excursion, the Maracanã stadium. It is one of the most famous football stadiums in the world, built in 1950 for the football World Cup, with capacity for around 160,000 spectators (which was reduced to 78,000 spectators after the last restructuring).
After the excursion, we will return to the port via the city centre.

Good to know

We recommend that you book early because only a limited number of places are available.
In the event of bad weather, the lifts and escalators that lead up to the Christ the Redeemer statue may not be operating.
The trip to the top of the mountain may be by train or minibus (return journey).
When the stations are busy, train/minibus waiting times may be longer.
Visibility will depend on the weather, therefore the view from Sugarloaf Mountain or Mount Corcovado may be limited or even non-existent.
The vehicles used in this excursion may be small and without air-conditioning or a microphone and non-compliant with European standards.
We recommend bringing insect repellent.
A limited number of English-speaking guides are available; as such, there may be a local interpreter.
This excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.
Beach panoramic drive will not be possible during Carnival and Reveillon.
