The programme

We begin our tour by crossing the city boundaries and heading for Hafnarfjörður, built on the bed of an old lava flow. This residential area is marked by its Viking past and connection to the sea: once a year it hosts a Viking Festival, when Viking enthusiasts come from all over the world for craft exhibitions, sword fights and other themed events. The caves surrounding the city are said to be inhabited by elves and other legendary creatures.
We cross the rough lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula and head for the thermal baths that use the hot, mineral-rich water from the geothermal plant of Gunnuhver; the open-air swimming pool is known as Blaa lónið, Blue Lagoon, where we enjoy two hours of bathing. In July 1999 a new building was inaugurated offering a shop, a café and excellent changing facilities. The water in the lagoon has a temperature of around 37-39°C and is rich in minerals, particularly sulphur and silicon, and therefore considered to have excellent therapeutic properties. The blue colour of the water, the steam and the 4-metre-high lava wall create a truly unique atmosphere. This extremely popular natural thermal spa is now one of the region's main attractions and one of the most visited locations on the island.
To return to Reykjavik we again cross the barren peninsula of Reykjanes. During the journey along the Reykjanesbraut we can observe the residential areas of Reykjavik and the open-air recreational area of Heiðmörk where over 4 million trees have been planted since 1950, making birdwatching possible in the city.

In the Blue Lagoon we can relax and enjoy the therapeutic hot waters. For reasons of hygiene a shower must be taken without wearing a swimming costume (in accordance with local customs) before entering the lagoon. There are separate changing rooms and showers for men and women.
Please bring your own swimming suit - Swimming suit can be rented on site at an extra cost.
Children under the age of 9 are required to wear arm floaters for safety reasons. These are provided free of charge.
Children under the age of 2 are not allowed.
