The programme

After a brief tour of the remains of the old town of Akureyri, we will cross the fjord towards Godafoss, the 'Waterfall of the god'. Its name derives from a legend according to which, around the year 1000, chief Thorgeir threw pagan idols into its waters when he decided to adopt Christianity as a national religion.
We will then cross the Fnjoskadalur valley towards Dalsmynni. The rocky formations on the hillsides suggest that the valley was once occupied by a proglacial lake, which disappeared over the years as the ice melted.
From there, we will continue towards the Folk Museum in Laufas, originally a manor farm and vicarage.
The farm, which is entirely covered in grass, dates back to 1866 and displays the most common everyday working tools used by the locals during that and preceding periods. 20 to 30 people usually lived there, whose only recreational activity was visiting the vicarage dedicated to Saint Peter that was built the following year.
