The programme

Our interesting tour takes us through three villages for a glimpse of some of the more fascinating pages of Antigua's history: All Saints, the site of the first sugar plantation on the island which was called Betty's Hope, dates back to 1674, Liberta, founded in 1835 following the emancipation of slaves who were brought to the island to work on the sugar cane plantations, and Falmouth where we find Nelson's Dockyard National Park.
Nelson's Dockyard is one of the most important stops on our tour. Chosen because of its strategic position, this shipyard was built as a base for the British Navy in 1725. After being abandoned in the 19th century, the shipyard was restored in the mid-20th century and renamed 'Nelson's Dockyard' in honour of the English Admiral and hero of the Napoleonic wars. Here we visit the naval shipyard and the dockyard accompanied by a National Park guide.
Later we head for Dow's Hill Multimedia Centre, a belvedere with a breathtaking view of the sea, the ships, Falmouth Harbour and the English Harbour.
Our tour ends with some free time to relax on the beach. Antigua is famous for its white sand beaches. It is said that there are 365 beaches, one for each day of the year.
