In a nutshell

No visit to Cape Town is complete without a trip up Table Mountain, the city’s most celebrated landmark and enjoy a tasting of world known South African wines at Cape Town most spectacular wine estates.

The programme

You will leave the quayside and travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, to the Lower Cableway Station. A Swiss engineered Rotair cable car will take you up from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1,060 m). The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and you can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent. Table Mountain gets its name from the flat-topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil’s Peak on the left, Lion’s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheatre that encloses the city centre and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which runs like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point – the cape which gives Cape Town its name. From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2,285 plant species – more than in the United Kingdom put together.
After the visit you will you’ll travel through the prestigious suburbs of Bishopscourt and Constantia into the region where South Africa’s wine industry began over 3 centuries ago. Groot Constantia Estate boasts one of the most magnificent Cape Dutch homesteads. Once the private home of Dutch Governor Simon van der Stel the manor house, which you will be able to visit briefly, is a fascinating blend of the West, East and Africa, incorporating European ideas, Asian craftsmanship and African materials. Join a guided tour of the cellar, followed by a formal wine tasting and chocolate pairing. Thereafter you will return to the quayside.

Good to know

This tour is strictly weather permitting. If there are strong winds, the cable car cannot operate. If it is cloudy, visibility from the summit is very limited. In case Table Mountain will be closed due to adverse weather conditions, an alternative tour will be performed at its place to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, skirting the slopes of Devil's Peak and Table Mountain.
There can sometimes be queues at the Lower Cableway Station.
This tour is not suitable for guests who are afraid of heights.
Guests in wheelchairs can manage this tour with assistance from a friend or partner. However this tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties.
Flat, comfortable walking shoes and a sun hat are strongly recommended.
Pending group size, they may be split between wine estates for wine tasting.
